MCDM maintains a dress code to encourage concentration and a sense of inclusiveness.  Uniformity in dance wear allows the teachers to assess how well the students are implementing the technique being taught, problems with alignment, and other important aspects of dance training.

              * Watches, and jewelry should not be worn to class

              * Dance shoes should never be worn outside

              * Female students should wear their hair tightly secured and styled away from the face.  A neat bun is preferred, and required for ALL ballet classes.  No undergarments should be showing under dance attire.  Please see “details for bras with leotards” below.

              * Students are expected to observe good personal hygiene habits.

All shoes and attire can be purchased through http://shopnimbly.com/mcdancemovement

Midriff/belly tops are NOT permitted in any style of class.  Thank you so much, Miss Lacy

All Boys need to wear plain white or black t-shirt tucked in, black athletic shorts or pants (more fitted for Ballet), black socks, and black ballet/jazz/tap shoes.  For Boys Hip Hop attire, see “All Hip hop only”.  All of the above and barefoot for Acro.

All Creative Movement classes need pink ballet shoes, black tap shoes, tights, and black or pink leotard. Skirts are not required, but they love to wear them! Hair up, secure, and out of their face please.

All Creative Movement (TODDLERclasses need pink ballet shoes OR bare feet, tights, and black or pink leotard. Skirts are not required, but they love to wear them! Hair up, secure, and out of their face please.

All Dance Foundations classes need pink ballet shoes, black tap shoes, tights, and black or pink leotard. Skirts are not required, but they love to wear them! Hair up, secure, and out of their face please.

All Jazz ONLY classes would need NUDE jazz shoes (updated 5/6/21). Attire needs to be leotard, black capri leggings, spandex shorts over tights, or full length leggings. No loose clothing please. Hair up, secure, and out of their face please.  Please see below for undergarment suggestions with leotard.

All Hip Hop ONLY classes require clean/indoor, primarily black in color (as of 2019) sneakers with no rocks or mud. Rocks and mud will damage our floors at a much faster rate.  Attire can be loose active clothing, i.e. sweats, t-shirt, baggy shorts, trendy, etc. Have fun with your fashion! No Jeans. Knees preferred to be covered for floor work. Hair up and out of face.

All Acro (Tumbling) ONLY classes will go barefoot on mats.  Form fitting activewear, preferably leotards, so that the teacher can see body placement and hair up and out of face please.  Biketards or Leotards with spandex shorts over them are great.  Braids or Low Bun is preferred with long hair for this class for safety.  No loose clothing – This is crucial for teachers to be able to spot the student safely and correctly.

All Tap ONLY (level, not combo) classes would need black, LACE UP (picture on website), tap shoes. Attire can be any form fitting activewear, i.e. Leotard/tank, black capri leggings, biker shorts, or full length leggings. Hair up and out of their face please.

Dress code details for bras with leotards/bra support in all styles:

  • Look for leotards that have “shelf bra” noted in description, so that you may not need to wear a bra with your leotard.
  • If you need to wear a bra with your leotard, it must be fully concealed by leotard (in general this cannot be achieved with sports/athletic bras)
  • Please pick a leotard with either a racer back, a high back/collar, or a relatively high scoop back that matches the style of bra you have, and vice versa.  If you can, wear a leotard with either thick tank straps or sleeves.  These styles will help hide your bra under the leotard.

Why should a bra not be visible with a leotard?

  • I (Miss Lacy) would view this similar to not having a bra visible with formal dress or sleeveless top.
  • It distracts from view when correcting for technique and also can be a physical hindrance to a dancer’s movement.
  • Bras are typically not seen or worn with ballet leotards, but we also understand that all body types and ages need to feel comfortable and supported.

COMBO CLASS DETAILS
