BIOGRAPHY:
Laura Donnelly is a choreographer, teacher, and dancer who writes and creates. She directs Dancing with Ease presenting workshops for teachers and students incorporating the Alexander Technique into living, teaching, studying, and performing in dance, music, and theatre.
In college Donnelly studied with Roni Mahler, a former prima ballerina with American Ballet Theatre. After college Donnelly moved to New York City where she was a soloist with the Court Dance Company of New York and performed with Clive Thompson (former soloist with Alvin Ailey) and Igal Perry (founder of Peridance). She also performed with Phyllis Lamhut former soloist with Alwin Nikolai.
Donnelly specializes in all levels of ballet and pointe technique, as well as partnering, modern and contemporary dance. Her teaching philosophy incorporates the joy of dance with clean line and sound physical and anatomical methods.
Donnelly toured nationally with the Court Dance Company of New York and presented her choreography internationally with composer Philip Corner. Her performance experience encompasses Contemporary, Modern, Ballet, Renaissance and Baroque Dance.
Her article Dance Technique – a Basis for Lifelong Learning appeared in the Chinese/English magazine All in One. Donnelly’s essay Meditation in the Dance Studio is published in Teaching with Joy: Educational Practices for the Twenty-First Century, Rowman & Littlefield Publishers.
